OK, obviously there is a stigma on "go fast" as they are lately called, boats. Granted a lot of times there are ego maniacal steroid freaks or "rich guys compensating" tooling around but do you give the boater a chance or just want them to hang with "their own" crowd? We really don't care what anyone is driving but seem to see that happening a lot. I think the wake boats are beginning to get that way too...

I've got a 24 Skater and I don't think I've been shunned because of it. If anything I get asked about it.

I'll tie up with anyone except irresponsible kids driving daddy's boat. The only "go fast" boat that I've had a problem with was Freedom US-1 ( http://www.flickr.co...oat/3623111198/) because he pulled into the party cove after a poker run pulled up to a full line and spent 20 minutes trying to get them to make room for him, the whole time running his engines blowing his exhaust back at us. He finally convinced a 58' Carver to move and backed up to the point that everyone in our line had to get back on their boats to avoid getting hit by him. He pissed me off that day.

Very cool boat , I was "this" close to pulling the trigger on one last year with 300X's. People definitely ask Hasn't really happened to us but we do hear "you guys are fun, most of those guys are azzholes" and wonder what everyone thinks.

man, that's the way it's always been in the boating world. People sheltered on lakes are the worst...and usually the most snobby and poorly versed. I grew up sailing in north eastern OK during the oil boom and on then on the east coast. I was shocked at how snobby people at Grand Lake and Texoma were when times were REALLY good and probably still are... It would have been great if forums existed then just to hear how ignorant a lot of people really were then or if it's any different now.

They hang together because they share the same hobby. Nothing wrong with that. Ski boats, go fast, cruisers, yachts, fishing boats, etc all different kind of boating, none of which really tie up well together.

There might not be too many more photographed boats than that one. A poker run regular for sure. I haven't met him but who knows... and whoa 20 minutes idling his race fuel . Must have needed to keep them warm. What a crappy problem to have...

It was more that it was so freakin' loud we couldn't talk to each other plus the smell. He actually may have shut them off for a few minutes. I was annoyed by that, but what pissed me off when he started backup in without looking at what or who might be behind him. Other people on his boat started apologizing for him, but not him. It was like he expected everyone to get out of his way because of the boat he was driving. I just thought it was overly arrogant.

I see that a lot as well, the "look at me!" factor and not paying attention to what they are actually doing. Kind of like girls on poles, only that's different. And ok.

(Almost) Every guy enjoys seeing a girl on a pole at the lake, but none of the girls that were with me or we were tied up next too were the least bit impressed with him. Oh well.
That day the tie up was kind of a triangle shape. Some of the other boats from the poker run that tied up in the middle of it next to the aforementioned 58' Carver and they were all nice guys and girls.

That is an excellent observation. We play with the classic (Jet Boat) crowd. We have to find areas with calm water and very little wakes created.
When we get together we might have 20+ boats, but the bumpers match for tie up. and the interest is more in common.
It is very hard for us to go out on Texoma in a group due to this, and one wave could swamp a low profile jet boat.
It is the same group of fun loving people as the others just a different style and size of boat.
You might be surprised how fast they can run.
You will always have a (jerk) in every crowd. That is just the way life is.

i love them when i see them hauling ass across the lake, going the other way. love to look at them tied up motors off .they are cool .i wont even talk to one trying to tie up, yelling at me those motors running,i just hold my hand to my ear and turn my back. nothing more annoying than some yelling at me cause he wont throw his call switch.
I've spent most of my life running around in the city chasing work and women.
i came to the lake for a change in pace,my golf cart goes about 13 mph,my boat about 30
but i get to talk to people and have a cold one on the way. lifes not a race!!!

You have just illustrated why certain kinds of boats typically hang with each other. They are tired of pricks being annoyed and passing judgement on them simply because they are enjoying their hobby.
Don't assume every loud boat has captain call exhaust, they don't.

I only tie up next to people with a credit score of 800 or better.

Even among so called "go fast" crowd there is some form of elitism,
its actually much better here on Travis than back home in Miami
where if you didnt have a 150k boat you were looked down on at a poker run
but its still exists. Seeing as I have maybe $10k in my boat that makes
for some stupid comments from people with more money than brains.
Just because of scheduling and last minute plans I have run one or two runs
by myself over last couple of years and was actually told by someone who i thought
was a cool person i couldnt tie up next to him because i didnt have any girls on my boat.
I felt like telling him I didnt consider the tatted up meth skanks on his boat my type but just smiled and parked at other end of line where we had a blast.
I have also had cruisers running their generator next to me for hours stinking up the whole area and splashing water from the gen exhaust on anyone who got near the side of his boat,
and wakeboard boats that blast horrendous music at 140db even though they were nowhere near their boat and the guys in the Gayliners that pull up with 6 guys in a 18 ft boat, no anchor,no bumpers and no cllue how to park.. So there are assholes in every form of boat..
As for exhaust I dont have a captians call as I cant afford it and Im sure as hell not gonna turn my engine off until I am safely tied up to the next boat.

Elitism is alive and well and displayed more prominently in large poker runs than perhaps any other form. What better place to get in front of tons of people and show how much money they probably don't have sunk into their $300K to $1MM+ rigs. Add a handful of "paid ladies" to join you and you have attained "baller" status. Peasants not allowed.
